From Rum Barrels to Chocolate Bars: Packaging Solution for Kahkow’s Special Old Dark

Kahkow needed custom packaging to match the premium nature of their limited edition "Special Old Dark" chocolate bar. The bar was made using a distinctive process: cacao beans were aged in wooden barrels that once held rum, deepening the flavor and elevating its quality. Launched in July to coincide with Dominican Father’s Day, the release targeted customers looking for a refined and original gift.
The post-harvest process used for the beans was not only curious and unusual, but also central to the overall quality of the bar, providing peculiar flavor notes such as oak and dried fruits.
A literal approach felt right for this product, where the process is the main star. Embossed wood texture and silver-stamped hoops directly depict the oak barrels where the beans were aged. The packaging also included an insert with more details about the production and ingredients.
